Walk in Shanghai – Fuxingdao Park
Fuxingdao Park (复兴岛公园, Renaissance Island Park) is located in Yangpu District, Shanghai. It was opened to the public on May 28, 1951.
The park is mainly planted and covered with 12,000 square meters of lawn, accounting for one-fourth of the total area, in addition to a large number of ground cover plants.
There are 3,359 trees and shrubs of 71 species in the park, including camphor, magnolia, cypress, black pine, metasequoia, pittosporum, osmanthus, wisteria and other trees and shrubs.
On February 1, 2023, Fuxingdao Park was announced as a three-star park by the Shanghai Greening and City Appearance Administration.
Inside the park there is a villa building called Bai Lu, a brick and wood structure house with wisteria trellis and front terrace, where Chiang Chung Cheng arrived at the park pier from Ningbo on April 26, 1949 on the warship Taikang, and held a military conference in Bai Lu to deploy the defense of Shanghai.
The south side of Fuxingdao Park displays a distinctive Japanese garden style, with cherry blossoms, bamboos and maples, as well as a heart-shaped water pond and a Japanese-style water pavilion. These features make the park not only a place for recreation, but also a place that carries a rich historical story.
