Slaty-breasted Rail – Natural Bird Sound

The slaty-breasted rail is a rail species native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

Breeding has been recorded in July near Dehradun in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas.

Features: 25 to 30 cm in length. The iris is brownish red. The mouth is pale red and the ends are black. The feet are olive brown.The male bird’s forehead, top of the head to the back pillow is reddish brown; the back, wings, and tail are grayish brown, densely covered with white fine horizontal stripes and black spots. The chin and throat are white; the sides of the neck and chest are grayish blue; the abdomen and two flanks are grayish brown with white horizontal spots. The female bird has black vertical stripes on the head, darker plumage on the back, and more white abdomen.

Distribution: A subspecies endemic to Taiwan. Inhabits low-altitude mudflats, paddy fields, and farmland. Other subspecies are distributed in India, Sri Lanka, Southwest China, and Southeast Asia.
