Night Walk in Anchang Ancient Town – Shaoxing, China

Anchang Ancient Town (安昌古镇) is located in Keqiao District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, China. It is one of the four famous ancient towns in Shaoxing.

The town was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127). It was burned down many times due to wars, and was rebuilt in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its architectural style inherits the characteristics of a typical Jiangnan water town.

Anchang Ancient Town is built along the river. The old street runs along the river, with a total length of 1747 meters. To the north of the river is a street market, and to the south of the river are residential buildings. The two banks are connected by ancient bridges.

The ancient town has gone through nearly a thousand years, and most of the remaining buildings are from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It seems that only the stone roads of vicissitudes are telling the history of the ancient town.

After spending an afternoon in Shaoxing City from Shanghai, I suddenly remembered Anchang Ancient Town.

I decided to drive there overnight. About an hour later, I arrived at Anchang Ancient Town. It was dark.

Despite the fact that there was a night, both sides of the river were still lively under the illumination of various colors of lights. This was especially on the northern bank of the market street, where people came and went very lively.

From time to time, a water fog rose over the river surface covering up entire river surface and putting ancient town into a fairyland. I was fascinated by this dreamy night scene.
