Walk in Kyoto – Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine
Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine (長岡天満宮) is a Shinto shrine with cherry trees, ponds, and woods located in Nagaokakyo City (長岡京市), Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
The area around the present shrine is said to have been the domain of Sugawara no Michizane, a scholar, poet, and politician during the Heian period (794-1185).
The shrine is also the site of the “Spring Sightseeing Festival” held during the Kirishima Tsutsuji flower season, which attracts many tourists.
