White-browed Shortwing – Bird Sound

The white-browed shortwing is a species of chat. This species is now classified in the family Muscicapidae. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Characteristics:
A subspecies endemic to Taiwan. Body length 12 to 13 cm. Iris dark brown. Mouth black. Feet dark pinkish brown.

The male bird has a striking white eyebrow line. The body is roughly olive brown. The feathers are slightly lighter under the body, with indistinct pale spots, the center of the abdomen is milky white, and the wings are short and only reach the base of the tail feathers.

The female bird is similar to the male bird, but the body plumage is lighter, and the white eyebrow line is not obvious.

Distribution:
Indonesia, Philippines, middle and high altitude mountains in Taiwan.
