If Zizhong Road is to be traced back, it has a history of more than 400 years, then this street can be regarded as an old street in Shanghai. Nowadays, its appearance has changed drastically with urban planning and renovation.
Dongtai Road is a well-known antique market for Shanghainese. It was once known as “Shanghai’s No. 1 Antique Market”. However, with the urban transformation, the Dongtai Road less than 500 meters away has been demolished and almost nothing remains. Dongtai Road has a history of one hundred years. It was built in the 28th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1902). Once called Anakin Road, it was changed to Dongtai Road in 1943.
