Walk in Jincheng City – Shanxi, China

Jincheng (晋城市) is a prefecture-level city situated in the southeast of Shanxi province, China. It shares its border with Henan province to the south and southeast. The city has a total area of about 9,490 square kilometers.

It was named after Duke Jing of Jin, who moved there at the end of the Spring and Autumn period. Duke Jing of Jin was the ruler of the State of Jin, a major power during the Spring and Autumn period of ancient China, from 599 to 581 BC.

Jincheng has a long history. The cultural relics and artifacts unearthed from the Gaodu site , Tashuihe site , and Xiachuan site show that humans lived here as early as the late Paleolithic period 20,000 years ago.

It is the birthplace of such myths as Nuwa mending the sky, Yugong moving mountains, Yu chiseling the stone gate, and Shang Tang preparing for rain.
