Kuanzhai Alleys – Chengdu, Sichuan, China
Kuanzhai Alleys (Kuanzhaixiangzi ) are in my opinion the two streets in Chengdu and the best represent Old Chengdu. It is a historical and cultural area.
They were originally built as a Beijing-style Hutong to house soldiers from Manchuria and Mongolia, but last century it became a popular spot for dignitaries to drink tea, feast and set up mansions.
Although it is touristy, I think Kuanzhai Alleys perfectly capture the relaxed and celebratory spirit of Chengdu.
