Nanchan Temple (南禪寺) is a Buddhist temple located near Lijiazhuang Village in Wutai County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, China.

Since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, many generations of emperors have advocated Buddhism, and by the mid-Tang Dynasty, Buddhism had reached its peak. The Mount Wutai (五台山) area has always been a holy land of Buddhism, and as a result, and as a result, over time it has been surrounded by temples of various sizes.

At that time, Nanchan Temple was just an incense temple built by villagers. In the third year of Tang Jianzhong (782), the Nanchan Temple was rebuilt.

Since its construction, the temple has enjoyed a thousand years of continuous patronage and has been repaired in later dynasties, except for the main hall left over from the Tang Dynasty.

Nanchan Temple is the oldest existing wooden structure in China. It was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 1961.
