Walk in Kyoto – Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
Bamboo Forest, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove or Sagano Bamboo Forest, is a natural forest of bamboo in Arashiyama, a district on the western outskirts of Kyoto City, Japan.
The forest consists mostly of mōsō bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) and has several pathways for tourists and visitors. The Ministry of the Environment considers it a part of the soundscape of Japan.
The forest is not far from Tenryū-ji temple, which is the location of Rinzai School, and the famous Nonomiya Shrine.
The Sagano Bamboo Forest is situated northwest of Kyoto near the Tenryū-ji temple, which is the location of Rinzai School, and also the famous Nonomiya Shrine. It covers an area of 16 km2 (6.2 sq mi).
After passing through the tunnel of fresh green bamboo forest, you will arrive at a park where the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
Prior to 2015, there was a charge to access the forest.
