Train Ride to Tibet – Xining West Railway Station to Lhasa
Xining West Railway Station (西宁西站) is a railway station on the Qingzang railway. It serves the suburbs of the city of Xining and is located 12 km from Xining Railway Station, Qinghai Province, China.
Qinghai, also known Kokonor, is a landlocked province in the northwest of the People’s Republic of China. Its capital and largest city is Xining.
Lhasa (Standard Tibetan: ལྷ་ས, lit. ’Place of Gods’; Chinese: 拉萨市) is the urban center of the prefecture-level Lhasa City and the administrative capital of Tibet.
The city has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid-17th century. It contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka Palaces.
Railway experts mentioned that it is not possible to build the railway on permafrost that is unstable. However, China successfully constructed the world’s highest railway and present to the world this engineering marvel.
