Strolling in Shanghai – Jiangwan Stadium
Shanghai Jiangwan Stadium, formerly known as Shanghai Sports Ground.
Completed at the end of August 1935, the stadium has commanding platforms on the east and west sides, made of artificial white jade, 20 meters in height, and one bronze dading on each side of the stadium.
The stadium has undergone several repairs and alterations over the past 70 years, and can now accommodate 40,000 people.
“Shanghai Stadium”, designed by Dong Dayao Architects, was built in 1935, covers an area of about 300 acres, and has a total construction area of 79,000 square meters. As one of the important public building projects in the “Greater Shanghai Project”, it was a large-scale comprehensive sports building complex with the largest scale, the most advanced equipment and the most influential in China and the Far East.
