Strolling in Gansu – Mogao Caves

The Mogao Caves (also known as the Mogao Grottoes, the Thousand Buddha Grottoes or Caves of the Thousand Buddhas) is located in the western end of the Hexi Corridor along the ancient Silk Road in Dunhuang.

Dunhuang is a county-level city in northwestern Gansu Province, Western China.

The caves contain some of the finest examples of Buddhist art spanning a period of 1,000 years.

At the end of the film is the tomb tower of Wang Yuanlu. Wang Yuanlu was a Taoist priest and abbot of the Mogao Caves at Dunhuang during the early 20th century. He is credited with the discovery of the Dunhuang manuscripts.

The Dunhuang manuscripts are a cache of important religious and secular documents discovered in the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang.
