Plumbeous Water Redstart – Natural Bird Sound

The plumbeous water redstart is a passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. The bird’s common name refers to its colour which resembles lead.

Features:
Body length 12 to 14 cm. Iris dark brown, bill black, feet light brown.

The male bird has a lead blue body, black forehead, eyes and cheeks, dark brown flight feathers, chestnut red tail feathers, upper and lower coverts.

The female is lead-grey, with dark brown flight and tail feathers, white upper and lower coverts, and dark grey abdomen with white spots.

Juveniles resemble females, but with small white spots on the abdomen.

They tend to live near fast-moving streams and rivers.

Distribution:
Pakistan, Himalayas to China, northern Indochina, Taiwan.
