Night Walk in Shangqiu City – Henan, China

Shangqiu City (商丘市) is a city in eastern Henan province, Central China.

It is a regional central city at the junction of Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. It is located at an important location at the junction of several major railways, making it a major regional transportation hub.

Shangqiu and surrounding area was an important base for the Shang Dynasty (c. 1600 – c. 1046 BC), and the city itself was established more than three millennia ago.

It has scenic spots such as Shangqiu Ancient City (商丘古城). Shangqiu is the birthplace of Yu Opera and Siping Diao Opera, and has a long folk tradition.

This time we used Shangqiu City as a resting place on our way from Jincheng City( Shanxi Province) to Shanghai. We wanted to find the old town of Shangqiu or the old streets of Shangqiu, but along the way we only saw new streets and new buildings.
