Hike around Neubeuern Old Town – Bavaria, Germany

Neuboyern is an old historic town on the Inn River in in the district of Rosenheim in Bavaria in Germany.

Neubeuern is historic old town lies on the river Inn in the district of Rosenheim in Bavaria in Germany.

Neubeuern was first mentioned in a document in 788. Since the 12th century, there has been a castle in Neubeuern, which is now Castle Neubeuern.

We parked at the sports field and then walked to the market square with wonderful 17th century houses and the village church of the Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception.

From there we hiked up to the castle , which is unfortunately a boarding school and cannot be visited.

Then it went downhill into the Wolfsschlucht. This is a former sandstone quarry; the collapse of the quarry led to the formation of today’s gorge with a small passage cave.

Now we went to Altbeuren to the Church of St. Rupert, a Gothic building from 1494, parts of the altar are still from this time. From there we walked on the road to Holzham and from there back to Neubeuern.
