Hike along the Salt River – Phoenix, AZ, US
Phoenix is the capital and most populous city in Arizona, United States.
A morning hike just outside of Phoenix, in an attempt to see the wild horses of the Tonto National Forest.
We first stopped at the Phon D Sutton Recreation area and walked along the riverbank in search of the horses, but had no such luck. We heard from a fellow hiker on the trail that some horses were spotted just up the road at the Coon Bluff Recreation area. We made the quick driver there and were rewarded by getting to view the herd across the river from us!
Both of these recreation areas offer great views of the Salt River, the mountains of the Tonto National Forest and numerous wildlife. It is a beautiful area and we highly recommend stopping and exploring both places if you are visiting the Phoenix area!
