Chiesa di Saturnino – Bultei, Sardinia, Italy

Bultei is a comune in the Province of Sassari in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 140 kilometres north of Cagliari and about 50 kilometres southeast of Sassari.

The Church of Saturnino (Chiesa di Saturnino or Chiesa di San Saturnino) is a country church located in central-northern Sardinia in the territory of Bultei and belonging to the parish of Benetutti.

Built in the 12th century, it stands on the remains of a nuraghe and is located on a small rise, not far from the banks of the Tirso river (Fiume Tirso) and from the homonymous thermal baths (Terme San Saturnino).

The building, erected with ashlars of red trachyte, consists of a single-nave hall with an east-facing apse; on this stands a bell gable, which was added in later times.

In architecture, an apse is a semicircular recess covered with a hemispherical vault or semi-dome, also known as an exedra.

There are two entrances, one on the west side and the other on the south side wall.

The internal lighting is guaranteed by three single-lancet windows, two of which are located on the south side and one in the middle of the apse.
