Walk in Yangzhou City, China – Slender West Lake
Slender West Lake (瘦西湖), also known by its Chinese name Shouxihu, is a scenic lake in Hanjiang District in central Yangzhou City (扬州市), Jiangsu Province, China.
The lake developed from the city moats of Tang-era Yangzhou.
The basic existing pattern of the Slender West Lake was formed during the Kangxi and Qianlong periods of the Qing Dynasty.
During the Qing Dynasty, its banks were the site of numerous estates for the area’s wealthy officials and salt merchants.
Slender West Lake is a typical small shallow lake whose source water comes from the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
The lake and some of its attractions have been restored as a national park and AAAAA tourist attraction, requiring a ticket for admission and open only from 7 am to 6 pm.
On June 22, 2014, Slender West Lake was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO, becoming China’s 32nd World Heritage Site.
