Short Tour to the Dazhong Temple Ancient Bell Museum in Beijing
The Big Bell Temple, or Dazhong Temple (大钟寺), originally known as Juesheng Temple (觉生寺), is a Buddhist temple located on the North 3rd Ring Road in Haidian District, Beijing, China.
The temple was built in 1733 during the reign of the Yongzheng Emperor of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
It was once an important place for the royal family to pray for rain and hold Buddhist activities.
Because the temple houses a huge Buddhist bell cast during the reign of the Yongle Emperor (1403-1424) of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) , it is also commonly known as the “Big Bell Temple”.
According to a test by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Yongle Big Bell’s sound could reaches up to 120 decibels and can be heard 50 kilometers away from the temple in the depth of night.
The Dazhong Temple Ancient Bell Museum (大钟寺古钟博物馆) is located in the Dazhong Temple.
