Chinese Hwamei – Bird Sound
The Chinese hwamei or melodious laughingthrush is a passerine bird of eastern Asia in the family Leiothrichidae.
The name “hwamei” comes from its Chinese name 畫眉 (huà méi), which means “painted eyebrow”, referring to the distinctive marking around the bird’s eyes. The species is a popular cagebird because of its attractive song.
Feature:
Body length 28 cm. Iris yellow or brown. Mouth yellowish brown. Feet yellowish brown.
Androgynous. The whole body is roughly tan or dark brown. The white circles of the eyes extend to the back of the eyes, forming narrow and long eyebrow lines, like tadpoles.
There are black fine vertical stripes from the top of the head to the nape of the neck. The throat, side of the neck, and upper chest also have dark brown fine longitudinal stripes, and the abdomen is gray. Tail feathers dark brown with dark stripes.
Distributed
Southwest China, Central China, Southeast China, Hong Kong, Hainan Island, and Taiwan, northern Indochina Peninsula.
