Driving on the Wenma Expressway – Sichuan, China
In this video, we will drive along the Wenma Expressway located in Sichuan Province in China. The Wenma Expressway starts in Wenchuan County (汶川县) and ends in the east of Barkam Town (马尔康镇).
The total length is 170.267 kilometers. The entire line is built to the standard of a two-way four-lane expressway, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a roadbed width of 24.5 meters.
Construction started in May 2015 and the entire line was opened to traffic on December 31, 2020.
Wenma Expressway is a major channel out of Sichuan Province connecting Tibet to the west and Qinghai and Xinjiang to the northwest. It is also an economic and strategic corridor from the mainland to the Tibetan and Qiang areas of Aba.
It is of great significance for Sichuan Province to actively integrate into the national “Silk Road Economic Belt” and promote economic development along the route.
The road is full of towering and steep mountains, which are awe-inspiring and make us admire the conquering spirit of the road builders.
