Driving along the Tarim Desert Highway – Xinjiang, China
The Taklamakan Desert (塔克拉玛干沙漠; Uyghur: تەكلىماكان قۇملۇقى) is a desert in northwest China.
It is located inside the Tarim Basin in Southern Xinjiang, it is bounded by the Kunlun Mountains to the south, the Pamir Mountains to the west, the Tian Shan range to the north, and the Gobi Desert to the east.
The Taklamakan Desert is the largest desert in China and the second largest drifting desert in the world.
The Tarim Desert Highway (塔里木沙漠公路), also known as the Cross-Desert Highway (CDH) or Taklamakan Desert Highway, crosses the Taklamakan Desert.
It is called the “Happiness Road” by the locals.
