Black Balsam Knob Hike – Pisgah National Forest, NC, US

Black Balsam Knob, also known as Black Balsam Bald, is a mountain in the Pisgah National Forest southwest of Asheville, North Carolina, United States.

It is the second highest mountain in the Great Balsam Mountains. The Great Balsams are within the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are part of the Appalachian Mountains. It is the 23rd highest of the 40 mountains in North Carolina over 6000 feet.

The top of the mountain is a grassy bald that affords a panoramic view.

The mountain is one really has a way of being unpredictable. A forecast of mild temperatures and sunshine can turn to high speed winds and impenetrable fog in an instant.

And for some reason I just keep coming back. What can I say? I just love Pisgah National Forest. In my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful places God ever made.
